Walter John Nagel


Age 65, of Owosso, passed away on July 4, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. Expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family on Walter’s Tribute Wall at detroitcremationsociety.com.

Walter John Nagel was born on October 10, 1958, in Flint, Michigan, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter and Mary (Boyd) Nagel. He attended Williamsport High School in Maryland and after graduation moved to Owosso,Michigan. Wally was a proud and loyal UAW member for almost 30 years at GM Delphi Automotive in Flint until his retirement in 2006.

Wally enjoyed fishing, playing cards, being at the lake and cruising around in his Jeep Wrangler. He was a devoted MSU Spartan fan and loved watching the Chicago Bears, MSU and Norte Dame football games.

Wally loved the out doors. During his later years, he enjoyed walking around Owosso and talking to everyone! He always had a smile on his face and a fondness for everyone he met. He never said any unpleasant words about anyone and often returned home from his walks with sweet treats for his grandchildren and dog bones for the puppies.

Surviving Walter is his son; Michael (Jen) Nagel, daughter Karrie (Travis) VanPoppelen, sister Julia (Gary) MacDonald, brother Theodore Nagel, ten grandchildren , two great-grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews.

Walter is preceded in death by his parents, Walt and Jan Nagel of Tawas City, Michigan.

A celebration of his life will be Saturday July 27,2024 at the Comstock Inn in Owosso- 300 East Main Street from 2-6 pm. Mass of Remembrance will be Friday December 27 , 2024 at 9:00am at St. Paul Catholic Church, 111 N. Howell St., Owosso, Michigan. Final resting at Tyrone Memorial Gardens, Fenton, Michigan.

The family extends a very special thank you to the staff and caregivers of Welcome Home Assisted Living of Owosso and Swan Hospice of Flint, Michigan. Your kindness, care and support will never be forgotten!

    My sincere condolences to Julie and the entire family for the passing of Wally. He and my brother jay were great friends in high school and even lived at my parents home for awhile. He was a kind and gentle soul and a joy to be around. May he rest in peace.
