Ruth Murray Dewalt


Age 95, Ruth Murray Dewalt of Clarkston, passed away on October 11, 2023. In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. Expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family on Ruth’s Tribute Wall at detroitcremationsociety.com.

Ruth was born on February 29, 1928, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Robert and Ada Parker Murray. Ruth was one of 6 children in the Murray family, Earl, Robert, Deborah, Thomas and Mary Jane.

Ruth graduated from Brentwood High School, Pittsburgh, PA.  She continued her education later in life by obtaining her associate degree at Illinois Valley Community College. 

Ruth married George (Skip) in 1947. They shared their special day with Ruth’s sister, Deborah (Foster) in a double wedding ceremony.

Over their married life, Ruth and George lived in many states.  George’s career would take them from home in Pittsburgh to Syracuse, NY, Lynn, MA, Princeton IL, Grosse Ile, MI (a favorite) and retirement in Loudon, TN.

Ruth is preceded in death by her husband, George Dewalt and daughter Lesley Matuszak. She is survived by her daughter; Elyse Sakuta, (Robert); son in law, Mark Matuszak of Peoria, IL, grandchildren Alexandra (Wacey) Clarke of  Grand Junction, CO, Ned (Nerina) Matuszak of Indianapolis, IN.  Three Great Grandchildren: Parker, Payne and Mark.  Many nieces and nephews who kept in touch with a favorite aunt. 

Charitable donation can be made at Greater Peoria Boys and Girls Club or Greater Peoria Honor Flight.

A private service at Arlington National Cemetery, Washington D.C. will be held at a later date.

    Happy heavenly birthday my/our beautiful Aunt Ruth! I love you so much for your kind, gentle and fun spirit. I think of you often. God bless and my love to Elyse and Bob, Alex and Ned and their families.

    I’m saddened to learn of Ruth’s passing. I was her caregiver through comfort keepers. I hold a lot of fun memories with her.
