Roger Dean McFarlin, a loving and cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully on Thursday May 1st, 2025, at the age of 77.

Born on March 28th, 1948, in Flint, MI, Roger was the oldest son of J.C. and Dorothy (Wilson) McFarlin. In his early years, he worked alongside his father and brother Alan as an auto mechanic in the family’s service station business. He later went on to enjoy a career as a semi-truck driver and eventually shared his passion for trucking as an instructor at a truck driving school before his retirement in 2011.

Roger loved playing the guitar, bass fishing on a sunny day, playing Scrabble online, telling funny stories and above all else, his family and friends. He never missed the chance to watch a Detroit Tigers, Detroit Lions, or U of M football game or an episode of Ice Road Truckers.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Gail; son Brian and wife Kim (Bieber) McFarlin; son Chad and wife Christina (Baumchen) McFarlin; son Ryan McFarlin; brother Alan and wife Teresa (Skellett) McFarlin, granddaughter Morgan (McFarlin) and husband Jacob Cole; grandson Nolan McFarlin and fiancée Ashley Forman; great-granddaughter Sophie Cole; many extended family members and friends.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents J.C. and Dorothy McFarlin.
In accordance with Roger’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family by visiting Roger’s tribute wall at detroitcremationsociety.com.

A celebration-of-life luncheon will be held Saturday May 17, 2025 from 1-4 p.m. at the VFW Hammerberg Memorial Post 3720 located at 3131 Elms Rd., Swartz Creek, MI 48473. All family and friends are warmly welcome to attend.
