Robert James Foy
Age 93, of Goodrich, passed away on Thursday, March 6, 2025. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. Expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family on Robert’s tribute wall at detroitcremationsociety.com.
Robert James Foy was born on October 1, 1931, in Flint, Michigan, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Howard and Neva (Mills) Foy. Robert attended St. Mary’s High School, and after graduation, attended The University of Detroit, St. Louis University, Michigan State, and Notre Dame, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting, a master’s degree in economics, and an MBA. Robert also attended law school and seminary school. In 1953, Robert married his high school sweetheart Verda Lethbridge. They had 6 children over the course of their 72 year marriage. After completing his last degree, Robert joined the U.S. Air Force, where he served our country for 20 years, attaining the rank of Colonel while working as a budget analyst at the Pentagon, and an aircraft navigator. Robert flew 129 combat missions in Vietnam and received two Distinguished Flying Crosses. After retiring from the military, Robert moved back to the Flint area and joined the MTA as a comptroller. He worked at the MTA for 37 years, 26 of which were spent as the general manager. He retired in 2012. Robert loved spending time with his family, doing projects on his farm and spoiling his family’s dogs.
Left to cherish his memory are: his wife Verda, children Linda, Terry, Diane, and Brad, 8 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents Howard and Neva, children Robert and Kimberly, and siblings Jerry, Thelma, Mary, and Ed.
There will be a service this Wednesday, March 12th, at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Goodrich. Visitation will start at 10:00 AM, and a church service will follow immediately after at 11:00 AM.

I had the opportunity to work directly with Bob for over 30 years and was there to see the transformation that took place at the MTA and the expansion of services for the community.

I worked for Mr Foy as his admistraive assistant for 12 years. He was not only a good boss but a good friend. Harry and I had many lunches together with Bob and Verda after we both had retired. I will always treasure those times. My sincere condolences to Verda and family.
