Pedro “Papa Pete” V. Oviedo


Age 94, of Lapeer, passed away on April 11, 2024. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. Expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family on Pedro’s Tribute Wall at detroitcremationsociety.com.

Pedro “Papa Pete” V. Oviedo was born on October 15, 1929, in Laredo, Texas, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Julian and Matilde (Vara) Oviedo. He was the kind of man who could do any job and repair anything, he opened his appliance business in Flint, MI in 1964, offering sales and service then continuing his journey through the years with Ace Hardware in Traverse City, MI. Spending his days in his office was his favorite past time, he was also an avid bowler during his younger years.

He was a big food lover and you could always find him with a bottle of hot sauce to give it that perfect taste. Valentina was especially his favorite.

Pedro was always up for an adventure with his loved ones. He loved going to new places or even just the car rides. He even ventured out to Colorado to help his granddaughters move and found himself at the top of Pikes Peak.

Starting traditions in the family that’ll last for many years to come like going to MexicanTown and Honeybee Market.

Pedro and Josefina spent some time renovating their home in Traverse City, MI where they loved spending their time in the garden.

Pedro Oviedo loved his wife Josefina and his family very much, he will always be with them.

Surviving Pedro is his beloved wife; Josefina Oviedo. His beautiful children; Nora, Norma, Diana, Sonya, Leticia, and Noel. His step-children; Irene, Diana, Yvonne, and Michael, and many loved grandchildren.

Pedro is preceded in death by his mother and father Julian and Matilde. His children; Pedro, Gerry, and Cora.

Pedro V. Oviedo will be dearly missed and he is forever loved. His legacy will live on.

    I will miss my talks with Pete when visiting with my aunt and family. Pete was always a kind and pleasant man to be around. I know my grandparents loved him. Fly high with angels now and may you watch over my aunt and family. Thank you for the memories.

    This world will not be the same without you here. I already miss you dearly. Please know how much I love you, and I always will. You were the Papa that everyone could dream of having. I will miss seeing you in your office, miss hearing your voice, and I will certainly miss making memories with you. Thank you for everything you have done for our family. We love you so much!
