Lorraine Johnson
Age 85, of Flint, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her children on Sunday, March 8, 2026. A celebration of life will take place at 2:00pm on Friday, March 27, 2026 at Detroit Cremation Society, 8253 S. Saginaw St. Grand Blanc, Michigan. Lorraine’s family will be present Friday afternoon to receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00pm until the time of service, and from the conclusion of the service until 4:00pm. In accordance with her wishes cremation has taken place. Expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family on Lorraine’s tribute wall at detroitcremationsociety.com.
Lorraine Johnson was born on February 17, 1941. She was the third born of what would be 5 children from the union of Arthur William and Dorothy Lorraine Redmond. Her life began as a child of an US Army soldier in Flint, Michigan. Her family settled in the area known today as the Saint John Community. She often reminisced about the independence and comradery of the neighborhood. In 1955 Lorraine met the love of her life, Eddie. He often bragged that from the first day he saw her, it was his mission to “rescue” her and give her anything she wanted. They were united in holy matrimony on November 1, 1955 in Muncie, Indiana. Their union was blessed with 6 children. Lorraine spent her entire life as a humble servant to those around her and was affectionately known as “Ladybug”. She praised God every day and was a baptized member of United Church of God. If anyone around her seemed to behave in an unbecoming manner, she would suggest they find a quiet place to pray and ask for guidance. Although she treated each of her children according to their emotional footprint, they all received the same lessons and directions to guide their moral compass. Her family had hot meals every day, no dinner was complete without fresh cornbread. As parents Lorraine and Eddie had a goal which allowed their children to experience diverse cultures, art, and travel while being educated. Every person was met with a warm smile. Her family was her passion, and preparing them for life’s turbulence was her focus. Lorraine was a nurturing wife, mother, and grandmother; lending herself to anyone that needed her or her jewels of wisdom, an excellent cook (people eagerly awaited those sweet potato pies each year), skilled seamstress and upholsterer, and most of all, a tangible example of the Proverbs Woman. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, playing cards, fishing and camping, listening to music, reviewing scriptures, and traveling with her village. She made a point of expressing love and joy for her family daily, provoking a smile while relishing in their accomplishments regardless of the magnitude. Always giving to those in need, opening up her home to all, and willing to sacrifice her own desires. She will be missed immensely.
Lorraine’s remaining legacy includes her children: Cheryl (Sedgwick) Perry, Talicia (Edgar) Taylor, Mark (Tameka) Johnson, and Krystal (Ronald) Wallace; her grandchildren: JaMial, Jazmin, and Jarred Story, Ishijah Johnson, Ronald Wallace Jr, Mark Johnson II, JaiElyn Johnson, Shaniah Wallace, Kailyn Johnson, E’Licia Wallace, LeNisha Perry, and Sharrod (Enija) Williams; her great-grandchildren: Tyler Boyd, Deasia and Davon Weaver, and Remedi Wallace; her in-laws: James (Frances) Johnson, Kalvis Brown, Mary Tate, Marlo Redmond, Mary (Edward) Wills, Christopher Tate, and Ericka Johnson; and a host of other relatives, extended family, and beloved friends.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her devoted husband of nearly 62 years: Eddie Lee Johnson; her parents: Dorothy (Mackey) and Arthur Redmond; her daughter: LaTanya Johnson; her infant son: Myron Delynn; her grandson: JaVan Johnson-Story; her grandparents: Walter and Cordia (McClellan) Redmond, and Ida Beatrice Mackey; her siblings: Richard Redmond, Muriel Mitchell, Clarence Redmond, and Warren Eugene Redmond (infant); her parents in law: Cleophas and Sadie Johnson, and Helen Tate.

I am so sorry for the loss of your precious mom. She meant so much to me and the rest of our family. When my mom was sick she made sure to come visit and brighten her day.
