Laura Jeanne (Kryger) Zess

Age 66, of Grand Blanc, Michigan, passed away at home on April 25, 2026, surrounded by her loved ones.

Born on October 27, 1959, in Detroit, Michigan, Laura was the beloved daughter of the late Barbara Posoch and Bernard E. Kryger. She grew up in the Detroit area and went on to build a life centered around the things she loved most—her family, her home, and the simple joys of being outdoors.

Laura was the loving wife of David A. Zess for 48 years and a devoted mother to Alicia Zess, David J. Zess, Jessica (Michael) Burke, Brian (Shawn) Zess, Katie Zess, and Daniel (Michelle) Zess. She is also survived by her sister, Jennifer (Kevin) George; her brother, Bernard (Mary Weiss) Kryger; her brother-in-law, Joseph (Glena) Zess; her sister-in-law, Carol (Michael) Secord; and her brother-in-law, Paul (Mary) Zess.

Laura was a proud and loving grandmother to Matthew, Brooklyn, Jacob, Emma, Lucas, Lily, Kirsten, Hazel, Kathirin, Kora, Kristopher, Evan, Benjamin, Maddison, Kennedy, Samantha, Tanner, Silas, Aliyah, and Kinsley, along with many other loving family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her grandson, Brendan; her father, Bernard E. Kryger; her mother, Barbara Posoch; her father-in-law, Joseph Zess; and her mother-in-law, Margaret Zess.

Laura was a dedicated nurse who spent over 10 years working at the Surgery Center at Health Park in Grand Blanc. She will be remembered for her love of camping, boating, and gardening, as well as the countless hours she spent at home with her family. Laura found her greatest happiness relaxing by the pool, surrounded by her loved ones and her beloved dogs. She created a space where everyone felt welcome, cared for, and at ease. Those who knew Laura will remember her for her kindness, warmth, and love for her family, and for the way she made everyday moments feel special.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, May 17th from 1:00–4:00 PM at the Genesys Banquet and Conference Center, 805 Health Park Blvd, Grand Blanc, MI. 48439. There will also be a small ceremony and burial at White Chapel Memorial Park Cemetery in Troy on Saturday, May 23rd at 1:00 PM for close family members and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society and local animal shelters in honor of her battle with cancer and her love for animals.

To us, she was home. She was the one we called, the one we gathered around, and the one who made everything feel okay. Her presence will be deeply missed and forever cherished by all who knew her. We will miss her in the everyday moments the most—in the quiet, in the laughter, in the time spent together by the water and around the house she filled with love. We will carry her with us in everything we do. She was so deeply loved, and we will miss her more than words can say.
