Jack was born in Detroit, on January 22, 1934, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Norman and Verna (Reid) Lewis. A graduate of Birmingham High School; Jack went on to further his education at Albion College graduating with the class of 1955. While attending Albion, he was a member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity and also served as President. Soon after, he went to work for Michigan Bell Telephone which became Ameritech. Jack retired from Ameritech Publishing in 1992 as Vice-President of Operations after 37 years of service. After retiring, he volunteered for the Red Cross; sang and performed with a barbershop quartet; became involved in local government politics, and successfully ran the campaign for Grand Blanc Township Supervisor in 2000. Jack was a visionary and concerned about his community and its future. He was an active member of Vision 2020 and instrumental in the attempt to consolidate Grand Blanc Township and Grand Blanc City into one government and one community. It was during this time he made many of the great friendships he cherished as well as his long-time friends that he embraced and held dear from high school, college, and while working. Jack began to golf when he was twelve years old and was on his high school golf team. He also played for the Albion golf team and was Captain. Jack was a member of the Warwick Hills Golf and Country Club after moving to Grand Blanc and continued to golf until a few years ago. More than his love of the game of golf, Jack loved his family and friends. They were his greatest joy.
In accordance with Jack’s wishes cremation has taken place. His memory may be honored by those who desire with donations to Holy Family Catholic Elementary School or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Envelopes will be available at the church.
