John Maynard McHugh

Age 73, passed away on April 28, 2023.

John was born on June 30, 1949, in Flint, Michigan, the son of Elmer and Estelle (Ward) McHugh.  He considered himself blessed to have been raised in a neighborhood shared with relatives from both sides of his parent’s families.  He shared so many fond and fun memories growing up with cousins that he stayed close with throughout his life.  Family was always important to him.
John graduated from Kearsley High School in 1967.  He enjoyed attending his high school reunions and events.  John was also an avid golfer and a skilled pool player, joining various leagues over the years.  John was also known for his sense of humor, “gift of gab”, and his memory for endless jokes.  He was always laughing!
John was proudly a long time employee of the Filter Queen Corp., where he served various sales and training roles.  He made many lifelong friends during that time.
John is survived by his sisters; Judy McHugh, Darlene (“Bunny”) Santos, Fran Ziegler, Kathy (Chuck) Leaf and brother George (Tracey) McHugh.  He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and cousins, along with some great and great-great nieces and nephews.
John is preceded in death by his mother Estelle, his father Elmer, sister Nancy Thompson and brother-in-law Ernie Santos.
In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place.  Expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family on John’s Tribute Wall at detroitcremationsociety.com

This makes me very sad. John was a good friend for over 40 yrs. He was my boss at Filter Queen, but became a lifelong friend. So many laughs! He ALWAYS was quick with a smart ass comeback. Rest easy my friend! Prayers to the family. Rex Guelde, and Mike Boyce also send their condolences.

First met John and the McHugh family in 1970 at their cottage in Oscoda while stationed at Wurtsmith AFB. At that time Bunny was dating Ernie. They always treated us like family. Sorry to hear of John’s passing. Cherish the memories and remember the good times. Please keep me updated on the memorial service. My sincere condolences and love to all.
