Gerald “Jerry” Lee Evans, age 87, passed away on Thursday, July 2, 2026. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at Flushing United Methodist Church. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service.

Jerry was born on October 2, 1938, in Romeo, Michigan, to Albert and Elizabeth (Hiley) Evans. He worked for Flushing Community Schools as a teacher and also directed and developed its Driver’s Education Program into what it is today, serving the district for a combined 60 years. Jerry earned his master’s degree from Michigan State University and was a true Spartan fan. He loved running into his many former students, playing hockey, snowmobiling, and playing cards, but most of all, spending time with his family, who loved him dearly.

Surviving are his wife, Diane; children: Michelle (Frank) Fortelka, Lynn (John) Amorino, and Jennifer Schramm; grandchildren: Michael (Cassie) Fortelka, Sean (Alyssa) Fortelka, Jordan Nash, Nicholas Amorino, Merissa Evans, and Paige Wilson; as well as seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son, Jeff Evans; sister, Janice Evans; and nephew, Mark Coucke.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Genesee County Animal Control or the Humane Society of Genesee County.
