Dennis (Denny) Robert Meyer, a proud Wolverine fan, father and grandfather passed away Saturday, January 27, 2024 at The Ridge at Clarkston at the age of 75. He was the son of the late Emil Meyer Jr. and Donna (Blynn) Meyer-Akins, and was born February 11, 1948 in Saginaw, Michigan. Denny proudly served in the U.S. Navy in 1968-1969. After active duty, Denny completed his Masters of Social Work from the University of Michigan. Denny was employed with Saginaw Public Schools until his retirement in 1996.
Previously married to Sara (Sally) L. Meyer. Dennis leaves behind his three daughters, Sherry and Patrick Duncan and their children, Breslin and Ridley; Christine and Jason Kenney and their children, Alyce, Liam and Myles; Melissa and Ryan O’Dell and their children, Caleb and Brynn. Dennis is also survived by his brother Gerald Meyer, his sister Marcia Rochester and family, his niece Kristen Pica and family and James Sonnenberg and family. Also surviving are dear extended family and friends. Denny was preceded in death by his beloved sisters; the late Connie Sonnenberg, Linda Meyer and Pamela Sonnenberg, his nephew Michael and great-nephew Michael, who welcomed him into heaven. Least we forget to mention his beloved dog Maggie.
In his spare time, he loved to golf, travel to tropical places and watch sports. He was passionate about Michigan football, attending tailgates on the UofM Golf Course, season tickets, and of course listening to Bob Ufer on the radio. He loved to drive around and dream, we called it “Dennying-Around.” He looked forward to reconnecting with his Navy buddies at their annual reunions. He always loved going to the casino and playing slot machines, and later in life, discovered a passion for painting.
The family will be holding a private memorial ceremony at Roselawn Memorial Gardens at a later date. For those wishing to make a memorial please consider the Aleda E Lutz VA Hospital in Saginaw, MI.
Football is a religion and Saturday is the holy day of obligation. — Bob Ufer
