David Kenneth Sova


Age 75, of Durand, passed away on February 7, 2024. To honor his wishes, cremation has taken place. Expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family on David’s Tribute Wall at detroitcremationsociety.com.

David Kenneth Sova was born on August 12, 1948, in Flint, Michigan, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Leo and Alene (Cloutier) Sova. He attended St. Mary’s Queen of Angeles school through eighth grade and completed his education at Swartz Creek High School class of 1966.  David was involved in various sports including football and baseball, where he excelled as a pitcher.  He went on to play AAA Ball.  After graduation he served his country as an SP4 (T) Radio Operator in Vietnam from 1967 – 1969.

David worked for the US Postal service up until his retirement in 2006.  He served as a Deacon for Hope Lutheran Church in Linden, MI. for several years and continued his service to God, volunteering his time at the Argentine Care Center.  He loved fishing, spending time on the lake with family and was an avid dog lover.

David is survived by his daughter, Macee Sova of Holly, son Todd Sexton of Durand and their mother Sherry Sova. He is also survived by brother, Leo (Cathy) Sova of Largo Florida, sisters Linda Brulla of Flint, Susan Horton of Grayling, Crystal (Tony) Genovesi of Gaines and Kate (Jeff) Garabedian of Gaines.  Many nieces and nephews.

David is preceded in death by his mother, Alene Sova and father, Leo Sova. Brothers, Michael Sova and William Sova and sisters Patricia Bogue and Gayle Heathcoat.  Nephews Jim Bogue, Justin Burgess and niece Amy Martin.

A Memorial Service with Military Honors will be held Friday, March 8th at 1:00 at Great lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan.
