Daniel William Creighton was born on July 5, 1940, in Flint, Michigan, to Stewart and Mona (Gifford) Creighton. He was the youngest of four brothers: Darrell, Tommy, Pat, and Gerald.

As children, he and his brothers worked in the stables near their home, spending their free time riding horses. Daniel was a natural entertainer, whether he realized it or not. After high school, he moved to California with his brother Darrell to skydive and perform stunt work for television and film productions in the area. Not long after, Daniel returned to Michigan for work.

Daniel spent many years in sales, whether it was shoes or furniture. But people didn’t stay for the product—they stayed for “Danny.” It wasn’t just the customers who loved him—his coworkers couldn’t get enough of him either. That connection deepened when he married his coworker, Helen, in 1967. One year later, their daughter Colleen was born.

Daniel’s time with Helen and Colleen was filled with laughter and love—the foundation of their family. They eventually settled in Flushing, Michigan. As an adult, Colleen worked alongside her father at Peerless Furniture in Flint. They were a tag team—a force to be reckoned with.

On January 5, 2002, Daniel became a grandfather to his namesake, Daniel. From then on, he was lovingly known as “Poppy”—a title he wore with pride. He and Helen prioritized spending time with their grandson—taking him on trips, sharing adventures, and showering him with love.

Daniel was also an avid golfer. He loved spending time out on the green with his brothers and friends, a cold drink in hand and laughter never far behind. Those afternoons were some of his favorite ways to unwind and connect with the people he loved. Back home, Daniel hosted countless poker and pool nights in the basement, turning simple gatherings into memorable nights full of fun, competition, and camaraderie.

He continued working at Peerless until it closed, after which he joined Lapeer Furniture and Mattress. He retired in 2013 and later moved up north for a time. Daniel and Helen loved to travel, whether the trips were large or small.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Helen Creighton; daughter, Colleen Q. Osborne; and grandson, Daniel J. Osborne.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers; his sister and brother-in-law; and many dear friends.

I’m sorry to hear that your dad passed away. My dad and Danny’s friend, Tony Gardner, passed in 2013. We lost mom, Joyce, in February of this year. I remember as kids being at your house playing while the parents played cards. Great memories. Time passes us by so fast. Hugs to you and your mom.
