Age 85, of Flushing, passed away on May 24, 2024. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service and interment will be held at the Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, MI; time and date to be determined. Billy J. LaVere was born on June 13, 1938, in Port Huron, Michigan, the son of Mr. and Mrs. William and Dorthy (Dell) LaVere. He leaves his sister Glady Sawyer of Attica; sister-in-law Millie LaVere of Port Huron; and brother-in-law Dick Wilson of Indian River.

An American patriot through and through, Billy is a Navy veteran; serving his tour aboard the USS Intrepid. Billy retired from General Motors and is a member of UAW Local #598.

He enjoyed playing golf, watching Yankees baseball and was also an avid reader.

Surviving Billy is his loving wife of 47 years, Flora LaVere (Bowen); his children Becky LaVere, BillieJo Pyles of Florida, and step-children Tony Newton of Davison, MI, and Kathy Wohl of Flushing, MI. Grandchildren include Shaun Newton, Amber Shaw, Michael Newton, Branden Wohl, Hayden Wohl, Hanna Perry, and Rachel (LaVere); Great grandchildren Annecy, Charlotte, Lincoln, Carter, Ethan and Aspen.

Billy is preceded in death by his sister Maxine Wilson; brother Don LaVere; step-son Johnny Newton, grandchild Derek, and brother-in-law Jim Sawyers.
