Bertie Marie Evans

Bertie Marie Evans (Province), age 78, passed away peacefully at her home in Burton, Michigan, on February 17, 2026. She was surrounded by her loving family and under the compassionate care of The Care Team Hospice after a long and courageous battle with Metastatic Lung Cancer.

Bertie was born on November 10, 1946, in Cabin Creek, West Virginia, to her parents Betty Lee Province (Creathers) and Harry Province Sr., who preceded her in death. She was the eldest of six children. She grew up in West Virginia and graduated from East Bank High School before moving to Michigan and continuing her education at Mott Community College, where she studied bookkeeping. Throughout her life, Bertie worked in various professions that showcased her dedication and compassion for others. She served as a pharmacy technician, bookkeeper, and home health aide for the elderly and disabled.

Evans Jr. (Kim), daughter Tina Marie Fields (Wendell Craig), brother Harry Province Jr, grandchildren Jessica Cavett, Marissa Ross (Mitchell), TeAuynna Smith, Kelsey Evans, and Mariah Urquhart (Xavier), as well as great-grandchildren Aurora Curey, Athena Ross, Avagrace, Maisee, Sofia, and Walker Furden. Bertie also leaves behind many cherished extended family members and dear friends Bev and Judy. Bertie was also preceded in death by her sisters Rose Wheaton (Steve), Nancy Mobley (James), Barbara Bonds (David), Sandy Province, and great-granddaughter Rylee Furden.

Bertie’s faith in God was a guiding force throughout her life. She found joy in spending time with her children, grandchildren, extended family, and friends. Her favorite activities included playing bingo, visiting casinos, country music, dancing, traveling to new places, playing games with loved ones, sharing homemade meals with family members around the table, shopping for thoughtful gifts for others, and performing small acts of kindness that brightened the lives of those around her.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to The Care Team Hospice for their unwavering support for the past six months. Special thanks go to Nurse Stephanie and Michelle; Social Worker Tiffany; CNA Rebecca; Chaplain Eric; Massage Therapist Mackenzie; as well as the Hurley Cancer Center in Flint for their compassionate care during Bertie’s journey.

Bertie’s legacy of love and kindness will live on through all who knew her. May her memory bring comfort to those she touched during her remarkable life.

There isn’t a day that goes by that I dont think about you Gma. As I shuffle through our memories I am so honored to have called you my Grandma. You helped me raise Aurora in her baby years and were the first strong woman I ever looked up to. I love you so much and I will see you again. Hold Rylee til we get there.
