Kenneth L. Wright (Kenny), 78, of Port Charlotte, Florida passed away unexpectedly on December 21, 2023 in Flint, Michigan. His wife Carol, of 28 years, will miss him dearly, as will his 4 children and 7 grandchildren, Carrie Montrose (Todd), Trisha Frost (John), Kenny Wright, Jr., Jordan Wright (Jessica), Taylor Burns (Brandon), Alex Montrose (Hannah), Nicholas Montrose (Claire), Christian Montrose (Dannah), Sawyer Frost, Walker Frost and Quinn Wright-Rando. He is also survived by his brother, Frank Wright of Sun City Center, Florida, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Juanita Wright; sister, Shari Leach, and grandsons, Matthew Montrose and Beckham Wright.

He was a very loyal member of the United States Navy and extremely proud of his service. He was a patriot and a lover of his country and those who serve. Ken made a career in law enforcement for most of his life. He dedicated his life to serving others with his work over the course of his long career as a police officer. He acted as a deputy, Sargent, Chief of Police and Undersheriff. He would still run into people who referred to him as “Sarge” or “Chief” wherever he went. He was still working as a security office in Florida and enjoyed the comradery and purpose that job gave him.

Ken enjoyed playing softball when he was younger and golf for most of his life. He coached high school golf and baseball for a number of years. His children still enjoyed having him on the golf course, giving lessons and tips. They will all miss those special times and golf season this year won’t quite be the same. He recently was able to show Carol his Naval Base, Oceana, in Virginia Beach on a visit last summer, which was something he enjoyed immensely, reminiscing and telling stories of his time in the service. He loved his Saturday morning breakfasts with his friends. Ken and Carol loved travelling together. They just returned from a trip to the Dominican Republic and had travelled over the years to many countries, including a wonderful trip to Africa on safari. Whether sitting in the garage, or in the front yard, he and Carol enjoyed an afternoon cocktail, either together or with whomever may have been visiting. He loved visitors, especially family.

Ken was absolutely in love with his family. He loved Carol deeply. His children could expect phone calls and messages multiple times each week. Those calls always ended with how much he loved them and how proud he was of each of them. He was enormously proud of all of his children and the most doting grandfather. He would tell anyone and everyone how proud he was of his entire family.

Ken will be missed by everyone who knew and loved him. He had a life full of connections with friends and neighbors, coworkers and family. Our family would love for anyone to share your memories of Ken to be read and enjoyed as evidence of a life well-lived.

A service and burial will be held this summer at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, Ken would be honored to have memorial contributions made in his name to Tunnels to Towers or The Wounded Warrior Project.
