Robert Leigh Giddings Jr.

Age 63, of Davison, passed away on Sunday, April 6, 2025. In accordance with his wishes, cremation will take place. Expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family on Robert’s tribute wall at detroitcremationsociety.com.

Robert Leigh Giddings Jr. was born on July 12, 1961, in Detroit, Michigan, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Sr. and Honor (Rudd) Giddings. Rob grew up in Lathrup Village with his two older sisters, Pam (Giddings) Carros and Donna (Giddings) Kleist. Rob and his mom moved to Rochester, where Rob graduated from Rochester High School. Growing up, Rob loved all things sports – playing both hockey and soccer as a child. Rob continued this passion in his late teens and early twenties, moving on to coaching, running programs for youth sports at the Rochester YMCA, and partnering with the school system.

It was on a White Water Rafting trip as the Head Counselor of a YMCA program for kids that he eventually met his future wife, Susan (Scott) Giddings. From their first moments, Rob was known to weave in his sense of humor, fun and drive for adventure into every part of life – something that first caught Sue’s eye. This marked the beginning of their journey together, bringing with it 41 years together (37 of those years married).

Together Rob and Sue had four children: Alex, Cam, Sean and Mackenzie. Rob loved being a father to all four of them, bringing him true pride and joy throughout his life. Rob always put family first and wanted to inspire them to see and know a larger world beyond their own backyard. He loved taking them to museums, art festivals, concerts, independent film theaters, sporting events, and trips to try new food and see new things. He stoked and fanned the flames of each child’s individual passions and helped each one find their own joys and drive in life. Rob was an inspiring and passionate father, and eventual grandfather.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife Susan and their children Alex and his fiancee Tori (Hays), Cam, Sean and Mackenzie. His two grandchildren and Cam’s children: Bruin and Cruz. Along with his sisters and their families: Pam Carros and her family Megan (Carros) Woods, Mike Woods and Andrew Woods; Donna and John Kleist, Chris and Lindsay (Canupp) Kleist, and Caitlin (Kleist) and Denny Tallon.

Rob was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Honor Giddings; his dear friend, brother-in-law and the best man at Rob and Sue’s wedding Don Carros; Rob and Sue’s son Geoffrey; and, Sue’s parents Donald Scott Sr and Luanne (White) Scott.
