Michael William Baker was born on March 14, 1983, in Flint, Michigan, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael E. and Catherine (Gillette) Baker. He was a graduate of Holy Family School, Grand Blanc High School, Mott College, and U of M Flint. He was a talented and passionate composer/musician. He enjoyed creating poetry and art as well.

He was passionate about the detailed, technical side of home computing and was active in this with his close friends.

Michael was a longtime member of the Grand Blanc Huntsman’s Club and very accomplished at skeet, always placing near the top of the Winter Skeet League and CANUSA events.

Michael’s heart was focused on those in need, helping, where he could, the impoverished, the mistreated, and those in pain.

Left to cherish his memory are his parents: Michael and Catherine Baker; sister Rev. Sarah Baker of Grand Blanc; sister Laura with husband Shane Zylstra of New Hudson; and niece Audrey Zylstra. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and second cousins. Michael considered his lifelong friend and cousin Jeremy O’Harris a brother. He also treasured lasting, close friendships with Kurt, Graham, and Chris. He loved and was loved by his cat, Monkey.

Michael was preceded in death by his beloved great grandmother Grayce Hubble; grandparents Walter and Elizabeth Baker; grandparents Donald and Carol May Gillette; aunt Sharon Kosik; and uncle Carl Gillete.

Mike was the best person I’ve ever known. The world has lost a truly good soul. He was always ready with a quip that usually ended in a laugh from everyone. We had countless conversations trying to understand the how and why of life. We learned how to play and create music together. He was a brother to me and I can’t believe he’s gone.

Our deepest and truest sympathies are felt and sent to Cathy, Mike Sr, Laura, Sarah, Monkey and all who have been devastated by this loss. Michael was and is so loved by us too. We will never forget him and the kind, gentle soul he was. He is in the comfort of Jesus now. May he experience wonders and joy beyond human understanding. “To be absent from the body is to be present with The Lord.” “In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.”
