Margaret Mary Hayward, age 97, of Burton, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 11, 2026, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at Church of the Holy Family, 11804 S. Saginaw Street, Grand Blanc. Margaret will lie in state at the church on Thursday morning from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. A private burial will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery at a later date.
Margaret’s family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Detroit Cremation Society, 8253 S. Saginaw Street, Grand Blanc. On Wednesday evening, family, friends, and parish members will gather to pray the Rosary at 6:00 p.m.

Margaret Mary Hayward was born on July 29, 1928, in Flint, Michigan, the daughter of Francis and Elizabeth (Reagan) McMahon. Margaret devoted her life to her faith and her family. A devote Catholic, she found great comfort and strength in prayer and was deeply devoted to the Church. Margaret was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend whose gentle spirit, kindness, and unwavering support touched all who knew her. She took great joy in caring for her family and creating a welcoming home where everyone felt loved and accepted. Margaret will be remembered for her compassion, wisdom, and the example of love and faith she shared throughout her life.
Left to cherish her memory are her two daughters, Robin (Case) Lemstra and Laurie Hayward; son, Dean Jr. (Jody) Hayward; three grandchildren, Ashley (Brian) Veceillo, Andrew Hayward, and Morgan Hayward; along with several nieces and nephews.
Margaret was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dean Hayward Sr.; her brothers, Joseph, Francis, and James McMahon; and her sister, Agnes Adkins.
