Flora LaVere
Age 85, of Flushing, Michigan, passed away on September 14, 2024. In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service, to celebrate Flora’s life, will be held on October 12, 2024, at noon, at the New Life Christian Fellowship in Grand Blanc, Michigan. Inurnment at Great Lakes National Cemetery will follow at a later date.
Flora was born on November 17, 1938, in Gate City, Virginia. She was a spiritual woman who cherished her time with her church family, singing in the choir and often volunteering in the kitchen to cook meals for events. Flora found joy in spending time with her grandchildren, sewing, crafting, and gardening.
She is survived by her son, Tony (Debbie) Newton; her daughter, Kathy (Barry) Wohl; her step-children, Becky LaVere and BillieJo Pyles; daughter-in-law, Cindy Newton; grandchildren, Shaun (Hallie) Newton, Amber Shaw, Michael (Taylor) Newton, Branden Wohl, Hayden Wohl, Hanna (Hunter) Perry, and Rachel Metzger; great-grandchildren, Annecy, Charlotte, Lincoln, Carter, Ethan, and Aspen; siblings, Bobby (Fran) Bowen, Barbara Cox, Terry (Nancy) Bowen, and Larry (Sue) Bowen; Sister-in-law Betty Bowen.
Flora was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 47 years, Billy LaVere; her son, Johnny Newton; her parents Oscar and Myrtle Bowen, her brother James Bowen, and her Brother in-law; Leo Cox.
