Age 87, of Rochester Hills, passed away on Thursday, August 21, 2025. In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. Expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family on Elsie’s tribute wall at detroitcremationsociety.com.
Elsie Jo Gruebner was born on March 22, 1938, in East Detroit(Pointe), Michigan, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph and Jennie (Peroglio) Orel.
Whether it was making an outdoor skating rink in the dead of winter, carving pumpkins with the grandkids, or watching the great grandkids play on the beach, Elsie was always focused on making our family better. She attended school sports, hockey, and other extra-curricular activities for 3 generations and always wanted to please everyone around her. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were her biggest joy and she cherished all the time spent with them. From making cakes, pies, and other desserts for her family and friends to feeding the ravens, squirrels, and any other animal that came into the yard, she was always focused on doing good things for others. She was a one-of-a-kind mom, sister, daughter, grandma, great-grandma and she will be missed by all those fortunate enough to have met her. Heaven is truly lucky to have her.
Left to cherish her memory are sister Cheryl Orel, children Kurt Gruebner(Teresa), Kris Gruebner, and Kerri Gruebner, grandchildren Jillian Schaibly(Andrew) and Chelsea Thomasma(Jack), great grandchildren Nora and Lucy Schaibly, and soon to arrive baby Jack Thomasma, and many other family and friends from Michigan and Florida.
Elsie was preceded in death by husband Al Gruebner, her parents Joseph and Jennie Orel, older sister Betty Jane Ring, and many other cherished family, friends, and pets.

I’m so very sorry to hear of Yaw’s loss. Yaw are in My Thoughts and Prayers. Lost of LOVE for All of Yaw.
For sure Elsie is giving the good Lord a run for His money.
She truly was a “one-of-a-kind” to everyone who knew her. Elsie spoke her mind, stood her ground, and was a friend and protector to all who walked on two legs or four.
We will all miss Elsie.
I will miss her dearly.
May Elsie soar on eagle’s wings; may she run and not grow weary, may she walk and not be faint. Free, and whole, and in the loving arms of our Lord.
God bless you Elsie.

I am so saddened by Elsie’s passing. Elsie was a classmate of mine and a good friend. We were not always able to see each other because of the miles between us, but when we talked it was always a marathon catching up on news about our family’s and remembering our high school friends and sharing our memories. Elsie was a beautiful person who loved her family and had a heart of gold. My sympathy goes out to all of you. You have lost an angel.
Dear Elsie’s family, I am so sorry for your loss. I am one of her friends from school, graduated together. Blessings to you all.❤️
Elsie was a great friend of mine and I will truly miss her. Her smile was contagious and her friendship to all who were blessed to know her was sincere. We had the best times on St. Pete beach that I will cherish forever. Our memories together warms my heart. Elsie will be greatly missed by all.
Condolences to the family.
God bless, Adele
