Dwayne Douglas Mayhew
Dwayne Douglas Mayhew at age 74, of Holly, passed away on September 10, 2023. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. Expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family on Dwayne’s Tribute Wall at detroitcremationsociety.com.
Dwayne Douglas Mayhew was born on July 20, 1949, in Pontiac, Michigan, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred and Jean (Fast) Mayhew.
Dwayne is survived by his daughter, Valerie (Jeff) Spangler, and two sons Adam (Amy) and Aaron (Cassie) Mayhew. He has nine grandchildren, Michael, Kayla, Ashley, Jack, Parker, Juliet, Addison, Naomi, and Riley; and two great-grandchildren, Stanley and Sterling.
Dwayne served in the U.S. Army from August of 1967 to August of 1970. During his time in the Army, he served as a light infantry solder in the Vietnam War; where he was wounded and was honored with a Bronze Star, a Purple Heart, and several Army Commendations. This time in his life was very formative in who Dwayne was and how he lived his life. Dwayne worked for General Motors, where he retired in 1995.
Throughout his life, Dwayne was an avid supporter of the local Detroit sports teams. Even in his last days he was watching and cheering on the Detroit Lions.
