Dan Howard Lab

Dan Howard Lab, age 70, of Owosso passed away Thursday, May 8, 2025 at Sparrow Hospital with his loving wife by his side.

Dan was born on September 20, 1954 in Owosso, Michigan to Frederick Lab Jr and Norma Harmon (Case/Lab). Dan grew up as most boys do; hunting, fishing, working on anything with wheels, and going fast. Dan graduated from Owosso High School class of 1972.

Dan married Catherine Piotrowicz on October 6, 1979 in Owosso and they had 45 wonderful years together married.

Dan worked for many years as an industrial electrician, from Motor Products in Owosso to Eckhart in Lansing. He also spent time working to wrap and build custom fishing rods.

Dan was a leader. He formed, and was president of, the Mid Summer Nite Cruisers car club, he owned and operated River Rat Rods Bait and Tackle shop, and he was the founder of the Curwood Youth Fishing Derby.

Dan loved music. He was always ready to show you the next good song he heard.

He also loved sharing his favorite videos, whether it was about a master angler catch, elk tracking, race cars, or hunting Bigfoot.. he was always finding neat videos to share with everyone.

Dan was predeceased in death by his parents, Frederick Lab Sr. and Norma Harmon, as well as his sister Kathryn.

Dan is survived by his brothers Frederick (Brenda) Lab III and Kevin (Tina) Lab, wife Catherine (Piotrowicz) Lab, children Jeremy (Debra) Lab, Eric Lab, and Ashley (Tyler Hollers) Lab, his grandchildren Savannah, Felix Lab, Nova Hollers, Heath Hollers, Sarah Nichols, Emily Nichols, Tristan Lamrouex, and Jordyn Putney, and great grandchildren Asher, Ezra, Isaiah and Braxdon Coffey. Dan is also survived by his many chosen children (we can’t tell you how many of the kids’ friends called Dan “Dad” growing up). We also want to give a special shout out to his many fishing and hunting buddies, including Kurt Blount, Armondo Rodriguez, as well as the Hazel and Idle families.

If there was one thing Dan would want you to do for him, it would be to always take the scenic route.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 15, 2025 at 2:00pm at the New Wine Church at 734 Brady St. in Chesaning. Cremation has already taken place.

In lieu of flowers, memorials and contributions can be made to Catherine and the family.

Expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family on Dan’s tribute wall at Detroitcremationsociety.com.

Dan was definitely one of a kind, I met him at Bell Dean Chevrolet in Durand where he worked, I had hired in as New and used car prep and he was kind of my boss, we became friends and later I married his uncle and became part of the family. We have stayed friends for many years. We will all miss his sense of humor and his smile. My heart breaks for all of you. God Bless each of you and know we all love you.
