C. B. (Charles Bernard) Kelley
C. B. (Charles Bernard) Kelley of Genesee Township passed away at home surrounded by family on Friday, July 17, 2026, at the age of 100. C.B. was born in Flint September 8, 1925 to Michael and Rae (Quick) Kelley. He grew up with three sisters on Flint’s east side, and was a member of the infamous gang “Bare Back Riders.” He attended St. Mary’s Catholic school until WWII broke out and enlisted in the Marine Corp before graduating high school. C.B. fought and was wounded for our country on the Island of Okinawa. (Just don’t try to pin a metal on his shirt!)
After returning home from the war, Charles married the love of his life in 1947, Leona Kranz. He went to work at Chevrolet, had six children, and built our house with the help from his father-in-law, Joseph Kranz. In between all that he loved visiting his cabin in the U.P. woods, where everyone was welcome to hunt, fish, and have lake fun.
Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Leona in 2007, his oldest son, Michael, and his sisters, Helen (Cavanaugh), Colleen (Kanous), and Kathleen (Clark). Charles is survived by his daughters Ann & Patsy, and his sons Dennis, Mark (Valerie) & John (Beth), and 11 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. His last gift, Charles willed his body to Michigan State University for study (he made it to college). OORAH!!
A memorial mass for CB will be held on Friday, July 24, 2026, 12 noon, at Holy Rosary Church officiated by Fr. Roy Horning. Gathering 1 hour before to visit with family and friends.
