In the early hours on September 13, 2026, Marjorie Estella Chambers passed away at The Oaks at Woodfield in Grand Blanc, MI after a long battle with dementia. She leaves behind a legacy of unwavering devotion to friends, family and her church, a lifetime of memories and an unparalleled appreciation for a life lived out loud.

Born on July 19, 1941, to the late Edward and Estella (Frizzell) Greif, Marjorie always lived her life close to home. Raised in Saginaw, MI, Marjorie went on to attend Central Michigan University where she earned a degree in education. In February 1964 she married her late husband Robert H Chambers, and together they raised their two sons, Robert and Christopher, in Ortonville, MI. She worked as an elementary school teacher at Bailey Lake Elementary and then later as a substitute teacher in the Brandon school district. As her sons approached their teenage years in the late 70s, Marjorie returned to school for nursing and then graduated from The Hurley School of Nursing as an RN.

As a cardiac care nurse at Flint Osteopathic Hospital, and then at Genisys Hospital, she spent twenty years holding lives in her hands, keeping hearts beating with a rare blend of masterful skill, empathy, and the kind of no-nonsense authority wrapped in humor only a great nurse possesses.

Throughout her life, Marjorie knew that people needed more than medicine to heal, they needed laughter, mixed with a bit of irreverence. Marge was a gifted storyteller who never let a curse word go to waste. Her colorful language and sharp wit turned ordinary life events into unforgettable tales that would leave the entire room in tears of laughter. To sit around her table and listen to these stories was a masterclass in living fully.

When she wasn’t working or chasing golf balls around the fairway with her husband Rob, she tended to her family, her flowers and her many dogs and kitties. In all seasons, whenever she needed a breath of fresh air, she would famously announce she was stepping out to “check the weather.” We all knew she was sneaking away for a smoke; this is just one of the many unique qualities that made Marge who she was.

While dementia stole much from Marge, it did not steal her smile or her love of family and friends. She leaves a massive void, but her love, the stories she told and the hearts she touched remain with us forever.

Marjorie is survived by her sons, Robert (Jody) of O’Fallon, IL, and Christopher of Grand Blanc, MI. Nieces LeAnne (Rod II) Iamurri and Lindsay (Todd) Wyrick; Brother-in-law Bill Cumberworth; nephew Jeff (Kelly) Cumberworth. Lifelong friends Fran Grugel; Brenda and Ron Criswell; Roger and Kay Brasseur. She was proceeded in her death by her parents Edward and Estella; husband Robert; Mother-in-law Eva Chambers; brother and sister-in-law Bill (Diane) Greif; brother and sister-in-law Ed (Eleanor) Greif and sister-in-law Donna Cumberworth.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, October 11 from 12:00-4:00 p.m. at Goodrich Country Club, 10080 Hegel Road, Goodrich, MI.
