Age 86, of Burton, peacefully passed away on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at home with family by his side. A funeral service will take place at 7:00pm on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at Detroit Cremation Society, 8253 South Saginaw Street, Grand Blanc, Michigan. Chaplain Jonathan Wass to officiate with cremation to follow. Family will be present to receive friends from 1:00pm until the time of the service at 7:00pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be considered to AdvisaCare Hospice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Born on March 28, 1940, in Detroit, Michigan, Lyman was the son of Mr. Delbert Halberstadt and Mrs. Mildred (Tissler) Halberstadt. He worked for General Motors for almost 10 years before changing career paths and pursuing the trucking industry. He worked for Kurtz Gravel Co. and LGH Trucking for 26 years before his well-earned retirement in the late 1990s. He was also a member of the Teamsters Local 332 union. Even upon his retirement, Lyman kept himself busy with various odd jobs, always finding a way to provide for his family and ensure they were taken care of.

Growing up in the city of Detroit, Lyman held a strong, silent, resilient demeanor, believing that you can do anything and everything you put your mind to, as long as you were strong and just kept moving. Though challenging, he taught this mindset to his children, always ensuring they would maintain that dedicated, strong mindset. Lyman would coach his children throughout their entire lives: physically, mentally, and emotionally. He had a love for sports and was involved in many different sports leagues throughout his life, including the Detroit Junior Red Wings hockey team, many recreational softball teams, and even working his way to the Triple-A minor league baseball teams. When he wasn’t involved in his own sports team, he was volunteer coaching his children’s sports teams. As he grew older, and it was more difficult to participate in playing, he would spend his time cheering on his favorite sports teams, especially the University of Michigan football team (Go Blue!). Lyman was also a profound car enthusiast, finding joy in his 1986 Corvette and his 2010 Camaro. Most of all, Lyman enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, creating new memories they would all cherish forever.

Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Patricia Halberstadt; his children: Susan Temple, Ronald Halberstadt and wife, Tonya, Noel Harrington and husband, Neil, Hollie Highlen and husband, Stephen; his grandchildren: Heather Henson and husband, Jack, Trevor Haberstadt and wife, Jasmine, Justin Halberstadt and wife, Emily, Steven Halberstadt and wife, Abi, Olivia Pettengill and husband, Joshua, Arianna Green, and Victor Green; his step-grandchildren: Luccus, Abigail, Avery, Maddy, and Evan; his great-grandchildren: Rori, Riley, Levi, Dawson, Julianna, and one on the way; Donald Sheldon and Justin Sheldon, whom Lyman loved as a son and grandson; as well as many beloved previous step-children, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Lyman was preceded in death by his son, Steven Halberstadt, his parents: Delbert and Mildred Halberstadt; his siblings: Francis, Hope, Delbert, Robert, Shirley, Ladonna, and William; and his nephew, Tony Fields.

Lyman will always be remembered for his resiliency, his dedication to provide to his family, and his love for sports.
