Billie Joyce Mahalak
Billie Joyce Mahalak, passed away on Monday, August 24, 2026. In accordance with her wishes, cremation will take place. Expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family on Joyce’s tribute wall at detroitcremationsociety.com.
Billie was born on August 14, 1936, in Jasper, Alabama, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rufus and Eula (Kimbrell) Tubbs. Joyce as she was known was one of the first metermaids in the City of Flint; working there for about 7 years; Later in life she would joke about being a street walker; she had a great sense of humor. She married Richard Mahalak (Jerry) in 1969. He was a partner at Genesee Cut Stone and all of a sudden she needed to be hostess to international visitors and she rose to the occasion. She enjoyed cooking and trying new recipes; she could probably make squirrel taste good. Joyce was also great at sewing. She was a strong person being a single mother in the early ’60’s She was a trailblazer! She was a beloved member of Spruce Presbyterian church ladies group where they remember her fondly.
Joyce is survived by: Brother Ronnie (Becky); Daughters Donna and Teressa, Son Larry (Ruth), Step-daughter Linda, Daughter-in-law Patty. Grandchildren: Michele (Guy), Toni (Damon), Ryden, Christopher, Tiffini. Great-grandchildren: Lily, Lia, Gloriana (Kelsey), Gracie (Nathaniel)
Joyce is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Patsy, husband Jerry, niece Rena and step-son Michael,
There will be a memorial service at Spruce Presbyterian Church 6230 Gillard Rd, Spruce, MI 48762 on September 13, 2026, at 2:00 pm, to honor her life and service to others.
