Age 70, of Lapeer, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, August 5, 2026. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. Expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family on Richard’s tribute wall at detroitcremationsociety.com.
Born in Flint on April 9, 1956, Richard was the son of Mr. and Mrs. William and Patricia (Brown) Gough. Educated locally, Richard graduated from Kearsley High School in 1974. Shortly after graduation, he began his career with General Motors working as an electrician. He dedicated 35 years to his career before his well-earned retirement in 2011. Richard married the love of his life, Mary Lynn Mokan, on August 6, 1976. The two shared 50 years of happiness, love, and prosperity together, creating many memories both would cherish forever. Richard cherished his children and grandchildren, loving them with all his heart.
In his free time, Richard loved spending time outdoors. He looked forward to opening day for hunting season every year. When he wasn’t hunting, he would spend his time on the St. Marys River fishing. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife of 50 years, Mary Gough; his children: William Gough of Gowanda, New York, and Kate Gough of East Point, Michigan; his granddaughters: Margaret and Josie of North Collins, New York; his brother: John Gough of Lennon, Michigan; his sister: Sharon Nuttle and brother in-law, Kelly Nuttle of Port Orange, Florida; as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, William and Patricia Gough.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of Residential Hospice and the LaVigne Home for Compassionate Care for the love and support provided to Richard and the family.
