Anthony “Tony” Miller

Anthony “Tony” Miller, age 67, of Birch Run, Michigan, passed away at his home on April 18, 2026, after a valiant three year battle with cancer– a battle he fought not alone, but with the fierce and loving support of his devoted wife and family.

Born on April 9, 1959 in Cheboygan, Michigan to the late Masil and JoAnn Miller, Tony spent his early childhood by the Black River in Cheboygan before the family moved to Bridgeport in 1965. Tony attended Bridgeport High School, where he met his soulmate, Dorothea “Dotti” Alsgaard. Following graduation in 1977, he attended Delta College before pursuing a career as a union iron worker in Local 25. Tony’s life took a wonderful turn when he reconnected with Dotti, the love of his life, whom he then married in 1989. Together, they became a team who built a beautiful life as they raised their two children. Tony retired from iron work in 2012. In recent years, Tony was blessed with the arrivals of four cherished grandchildren who brought him much happiness.

Ah, yes, he adored the grandchildren– and the grandpuppies, too! In fact, Tony loved his wife, children, grandchildren, and their pets with an unabashed pride that everyone could see. At every opportunity, he eagerly shared stories and pictures of the grandchildren and puppies with friends, family, and even with people he had just met!

Tony enjoyed doing a variety of things in his life, some of which were fishing, gardening, cooking, eating good food, welding, more fishing, napping, and sometimes napping while fishing! Tony was able to fulfill his lifelong dream of visiting Alaska last summer with the help of his dear friends, Jerry and Barb Tanner, who ensured he had a wonderful time. Tony was always very handy and clever and could figure out a solution and a tool for any problem. He was strong and brave, but also gentle and kind. Tony will be remembered for his distinctly warm laugh and his tender hugs. Tony never hesitated to help someone in need. His sense of humor, quiet confidence, and warmth were felt by everyone who knew or did not know him. His death is a tremendous loss to his family and friends, and to them he leaves countless memories of special moments shared and the knowledge that they were a great part of his life.

Tony was predeceased by his parents, Masil and JoAnn Miller; two sisters, Deborah and Lisa Miller; parents-in-law, E.B. “Al” Alsgaard and Marie Alsgaard; and one brother-in-law, Robert Alsgaard.

Tony is survived by his loving wife, Dotti; children, Andrew Miller of Bridgeport, MI, Jessica (Jeffrey) Schocker of Frankenmuth, MI, and Jacob (Miranda) Miller of Frankenmuth, MI; grandchildren, William, Gabriel, Ava, and Violet; grandpuppies, Rosie and Gracie; four siblings, Mark (Sally) Miller, Linda (John) Friske, Kathleen Driest, David (Ila) Miller; in-laws Patricia (Verle) Wiita, Michael (Jane) Alsgaard, Cheryl (Michael) Paolercio, and John Alsgaard; and many nieces, nephews, and close friends.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to his medical team at the University of Michigan Rogel Cancer Center and Saginaw Covenant Hospice for their extraordinary care of Tony.

Per his wishes, Tony will be cremated with no funeral services to be held. In memory of Tony, donations may be given to The University of Michigan Rogel Cancer Center.

I got the honor of meeting TONY when he came to Alaska in 2025. You’re right his sense of humor, his laughter and those tight hugs or something I will always remember my condolences to his family and friends. I will miss our talks on the phone.

Condolences to the Miller family. I meet Tony and the Miller clan ( his dad, uncle and Dave)in the mid-late 80’s at Dodge truck. Our paths crossed many times over the years, we would play catch up on hunting and fishing stories. Somewhere around 2012/13 Tony was working for me on a wind farm in the thumb everyday was a blast jokes, pranks and stories but one day he was not himself said to he appreciated the job and that he had enough was retiring. I tidied to talk him into staying until the job was done. If you knew Tony his mind was made up and the salmon were running. I will miss my friend may he rest in peace. Again my condolences to the Miller family
