Michael John McKinstry
Michael John McKinstry, age 66, of Mt. Morris, passed away peacefully on October 20, 2025, in Flint, Michigan, surrounded by loved ones.
Born on July 12, 1959, in Goodrich, Michigan, Mike was the son of John and Alice “Marlene” (Nixon) McKinstry. He spent his life building and creating as a skilled carpenter and framer, proud of the work he did and the life he made with his hands.
Mike loved the outdoors and found joy in hunting, fishing, and puttering around in his barn— his favorite place to tinker and unwind. His quick wit, steady nature, and loyal heart made him a friend to all who met him and the kind of man people counted on.
He is survived by his loving wife, Stephanie A. (Nichols) McKinstry; daughter, Sarah J. (Wollard) Riley; and son-in-law, Gregg Riley. He was a proud grandfather to Jack and Kellan Riley, and will be deeply missed by his beloved dog, Daisy.
Mike is also survived by his siblings, Linda (Dennis) Alpin, Alan (Sherry) McKinstry, Debbie Bowe, and Jeff (Ila) McKinstry; special cousins, Larry Edmunds and Vern Walker; and close friends, Kevin Kryder, Richard Emberton, and Scott Everett. He leaves behind many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, friends and cousins who will cherish his memory.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and lifelong friend, Charles Hebert.
Cremation has taken place, and a celebration of life will be held at First Baptist Church, 800 Louisa St, Mt. Morris, on Saturday, November 1, 2025, starting at 12:30 pm. His spirit lives on in the love of those he leaves behind; no burial plans are set at this time.
