John Russell Krause
John Russell Krause left this earth peacefully with family by his side on the morning of July 13th, 2025. After he retired from General Motors in 2013, he became a permanent resident of the sleepy, orange grove and cow-country town of Arcadia, Florida. There, he enjoyed winters that required no shovels to remove the snow from his driveway or sidewalk, roads that were never covered with a wintry mix, skies that did not hinder the sun from warming his skin and heart, relaxing at his leisure, pampering his two chihuahuas, welcoming his family into his home for a southern getaway, and doing whatever he darn well pleased. He previously resided long term in Vernon, Michigan.
John was born on September 21st , 1946 to Andrew and Dorothy Krause. He was their eldest and only son of the four children that were born to them. He grew up enjoying time with his family and friends and remembered his time spent on his Grandparents’ farm on the Troyer side fondly.
He was an adolescent who enjoyed sports very much. He had an affinity for baseball and football. He earned the nicknames “Krause the Mouse” and “Crazy Legs” because he was fast, small, and agile. He did play in the snow as an adolescent and when he grew up he said, “I was dumb for ever playing in that cold stuff.” John did not like snow and did not think of it as beautiful when it was blanketed on the ground.
As an adult, John’s love for sports continued. He was an avid golfer, bowler, and bicyclist. John enjoyed card games with friends and family such as Cribbage, Euchre, and Rummy. He was an excellent Chess and Dominoes player and would enjoy most board and card games if he had someone to play with. He also enjoyed crossword puzzles and reading anything and everything. John was a person who was curious and inquisitive. He was loved for his quick-wit, unique sense of humor, and the twinkle in his eyes.
In January of 1972, at the age of twenty-six, John married the love of his life, Diana Lynn Conley. John raised five children with Diana: John (Tony), Jeremy, Jason, Andrew, and Sara. There is no doubt about it, John was a hardworking man who loved his family. He worked a lot so that his family would have all of the necessities needed and opportunities. The sacrifice that John made by working sixteen, twelve, and ten hour shifts, and at times, seven days a week is not something that any father and husband would do for his family.
John is survived by his son, John ((Tony)Jennifer) Krause of Rochester, Michigan and their children Jacob and Julia. His son, Jeremy Krause of Arcadia, Florida. His son, Jason (Tabitha Stanley) Krause of Owosso, Michigan and his son Jason Krause Jr.. His son, Andrew Krause of Rochester, Michigan and his son John (Pasha) Krause. His daughter, Sara (Matthew) Schantz of Oxford, Michigan and their children Theodore and Marielle. His sister’s Judy Thomas, Jeanne (John) Weatherly, and Jayne Copley. He leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other beloveds.
John was preceded in death by his parents Andrew and Dorothy Krause, his wife Diana, and his Grandson, Dakota Krause (Jason’s son).
A private burial for John’s children, grandchildren, and siblings will take place in the late morning on Sunday September 21st, 2025. All family and friends are welcome to come and be together for a memorial luncheon at 12:30pm on Sunday September 21st, 2025, with lunch being served at 1:00pm. The memorial luncheon is being held at: Seymour Lake Park’s Community Room, 2795 Seymour Lake Road Oxford, MI 48371
