Garry Lee Roy Riley


Beloved Father, Grand Father, Great Grand Father, Hero.
Age 80, of St. Helen, Michigan, passed away on September 29, 2024. In accordance with his wishes, Cremation has taken place.
Expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family on Garry’s Tribute Wall at detroitcremationsociety.com  Service arranged by wife. Burial at Great Lakes National Cemetery 4200 Belford Road Holly, MI 48442 at a later date.
Garry Lee Roy Riley Was born July 25, 1944, in Newport, Grubbs, Arkansas, the son of Mr. Marvin and Mrs. Lucille (McDougal) Riley. Employed at GM Transmission Plant #5 for 30 years as stock chaser. Retired 1992. Served in Michigan Army National Guard for 6 years; E-4. Federalized in the Detroit Riots. Sharpshooter M-14 Rifle. MOS was Forward Observer. Honorably Discharged. In 1953 they moved from Ark. to Flint, Michigan, for work. His family was in the Beecher Tornado of 1953.
Surviving Garry are his beloved wife, Terry Riley. Married August 3, 2005, Roscommon County, MI. 19 years. Siblings: Ruth (Jay) Wohl of Fla., Willie Riley of Fla., Sandra Phelps of MI. Children: Jodie (Wayne) Gozie, Darcie (Tim) Johnston, Kelly (Matt) Matusik, Sonjia Jones. Grandchildren: Ashleigh (David) Costigan, Shea (Travis) Bailey, Devin Gozie, Kelsey (Kodi) Thomas, Chantz Johnston, Derek Newsom, Michael Matusik, Matthew Matusik, Mackenzie Matusik, Mark Matusik, Kayla Jones-Lukawski
Great Grandchildren: Kaidynce, Davian, Jade, Ryleigh, Everleigh, Arcadia, Jonathon “JJ”, Zacari, Jessie, Carter, Mikaela, and many Nieces, Nephews, Cousins. He is also survived by many extended family members in MI, Ark, TX, GA, SC, Louisiana, FLA, AL.
Garry is proceeded in death by; Parents; Marvin and Lucille Riley, Brothers; Jerry Riley, Marvin J. Riley, Sisters; Brenda Riley, Zettie (Riley) Swartstrom, Granddaughter; Jessie R. Johnston.

    My deepest condolences and love to you all. I remember Gary very fondly from my younger years, their home was my second home. Hugs and love to you Terry, Sonjia, Kayla and all the family and friends. He will always be remembered.

    Just know my thoughts and prayers are with you all. Garry, my brother was a loving, kind, and caring soul. I know he s up there in Heaven with Mom and Dad and all my other loved ones that have passed. I will miss him dearly. I will see them all, again,when my soul goes to Heaven.

    We haven’t seen Garry in so many years but thought of him often. I remember Larry, Jim, and Garry as always together when we were young. I always thought of them as the Three Musketeers. I loved them all and always will. Glad you are with your loved ones Garry❤️
