Judith Kay Burkett

Age 78, of Baldwin, passed away on April 20, 2024. In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. Expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family on Judith’s Tribute Wall at detroitcremationsociety.com

Judith Kay Burkett was born on February 20, 1946, in Flint, Michigan, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Francis and Pauline (Gaines) Hurley. Judy was married to her love Russ for almost 56 years and had 4 children together. They had many great years of traveling and living in Florida during the winters. She enjoyed lunches with family and friends, going to watch the manatees come in and garage saleing. If anyone knows Judy then you know she loves card games. She could play and teach any card game known to man. She was accused of stacking the deck many of times during our annual Euchre tournaments due to the fact you couldn’t beat her. She also loved her scratch off tickets and going to the casino. No matter how ill she was during these last few years she didn’t miss an invitation to the casino. And it goes without saying she loved her family.

Surviving Judith are her son; James (Ed) Burkett and wife Nancy, Son; Jeffery Burkett and wife Mary, daughter; Denise Gipson and significant other Michael Varner. Sister; Sandy and Ron Howe, Sister; Fran Anderson, Sister; Paula and Jim Berney, Brother; Jim and Renee Hurley, Sister-in-law; Jeannie and Ernie Holsted

Please accept my most sincere condolences on the passing of Judy. She was a grand lady and will sorely missed. She and Russ were a staple and protectors of the Wolf Lake community. They both continued the long time traditions of the Bailor/Burkett reunions. Now Rick and Brenda Burkett are the guardians of this wonderful tradition.

I imagine the reunion in heaven with her beloved Russ and all our beloved who have passed before her. I can see her in the arms of our Savior and hear him say “welcome home, my beloved child.”

Fly high Judy and until we meet again a temporary farewell.

Sorry to hear about Judy’s passing. I am thinking of all the Pain you must all be feeling! I remember her as a very Special, fun to be around person. I remember when her and Russ bought their house in Florida. Bob and I were staying on vacation at Chuck and Sara’s a week or so. We all pitced in with Chuck & Sara, Judy and Russ, Aunt Lorraine, Pat and Dee and Helped them clean and Clear their vacation Home to get ready to move in it. That seems like yesterday but is many years ago. While there we Ran to Garage Sales, out to eat and went to a Dog Show. The guys like to go fly their model planes. We all enjoyed our Good times with them., off and off through the years. Oh, how the time flies before our eyes. Judy will be missed by all…. we have to make sure we love and enjoy each other while we have the Chance. Love you all! Another Bright Star in Heaven. Your cousin Joyce Jackson and Families.
