Janet Marie (Mienkwic) Alley
Janet Alley, age 87, of Flint, Michigan, passed away on January 20, 2024. Janet was born on September 30, 1936, in Flint, Michigan, to Bronislaw and Sophia (Zielinski) Mienkwic. She attended Holy Redeemer Catholic School as a young girl and graduated from Bendle High School in 1954. In high school, she excelled in many sports, academics, and groups. She maintained many friendships from those years, still attending monthly luncheons to catch up with her old classmates.
Janet married Stewart Alley in 1974. They lived in the “berry patch” in Flint and hosted many pool gatherings. Most will remember their home with ‘something good smelling’ always on the stove or in the oven. In addition, Janet loved having everyone over to trick-or-treat on Halloween. She would make her delicious chili and in fond memory of her past employment for Paramount Potato Chip Co. would pass out bags of chips to all the kids.
Janet was very proud of her Polish heritage, and maybe her devotion to St. Francis of Assisi would explain why the neighborhood squirrels and birds were never neglected. She also had a soft spot for helping the less fortunate and hearing others laugh – especially at her own jokes! As a lifetime Michigander, she loved watching the Detroit Lions and was partial to her beloved Koegel hot dogs!
Janet will be greatly missed by her five daughters, Susan (David) Pecyna, Patricia (Brian) McLaughlin, Laura Murray (Daniel DeLong), Jennifer (Paul) Kotwicki, and Melinda Alley (Leo). She was blessed to have 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews, and dear sister-in-law, Dorothy Mienkwic, and many treasured friends.
Janet is preceded in death by her loving husband, parents, and her cherisher brothers, Clements, and Richard Mienkwic, and sister-in-law, Mary Lou Mienkwic.
A Memorial Service for Jan will be held at the Flint Memorial Park Cemetery Chapel at 11:00am on Friday, February 16, 2024. In lieu of flowers, donations could be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Expressions of sympathy may be shared with family on Janet’s Tribute Wall at detroitcremationsociety.com.

I’m so sorry for your loss.
I, too, have many fond memories of childhood visits and family gatherings with Aunt Janet.
It was so nice to re-connect with her at a family reunion several years ago. She will be missed.
Aunt Janet will be sadly missed.
I have so many great childhood memories of her. Many summer days spent swimming on raspberry, St Patrick’s days celebrating Grandma Sophia and definitely Halloweens spent sprinting door to door through the berry patch.
I remember my 1st time watching Nightmare on Elm St, probably about 5-6 yrs old. I sat in the kitchen door way watching the TV in the living room. I could hear Aunt Janet and Gram conversing in the kitchen, that was apparently enough reassurance to handle my fear of Freddy.
